MBA: Life, Lessons & Legacy
After completing his Chemical Engineering degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, Trevor began his career at Sasol Synfuels, as an engineer and then transitioned into a refining production manager. He became an Ironman in 2013 and has participated in numerous initiatives in order to give back to his community.
As the MBA journey comes to an end for the 2016 cohort, the time has come for us to reflect on the impact that we as a cohort have made, both internally and externally to the MBA, and to share our insights with the new cohort as they begin their journey.
The legacy we, as the cohort of 2016, have left behind is one of continuous improvement. Through the Student Society and Industry Clubs the class has continuously looked to create improved and sustainable initiatives. Through Student Society events like Industry Insights, Inspiration Exchange and Cultural Dinners diversity was fostered and embraced. The Drink & Link events helped to create greater connections and relationships with students amongst the part-timers and alumni. The viewership of the STAR Magazine saw significant growth as it transformed into an all-round business magazine through the sharing of industry knowledge from industry experts, alumni, faculty and students.

Similarly, from the Industry Clubs we saw the establishment of the weekly Consulting Practice sessions to help students and alumni prepare for consulting interviews. The Social Impact club, through multiple fundraisers, achieved the Golden Chapter status with Net Impact. The ICE club saw the launch of the Guest Speaker series that connected the class and alumni with innovative and entrepreneurial leaders. The WIL club established mentorship programs with prominent business leaders to help its members learn and grow in various industries. Above all these initiatives, the clubs also held numerous competitions like the Google Online Marketing Challenge from the Marketing club, the AGSM Top Trader from the Finance club and the Great Debate from the Public Speaking and Debating club.
