Managing Yourself and Others
is a compulsory starter course for
the AGSM Master of Management.
It’s delivered as a face-to-face
intensive, creating an important
cohort experience. Financial Management provides
an introduction to core concepts
and principles associated with
the financial management of
organisations. Drawing on financial
and management accounting and
aspects of corporate finance, this
course will introduce you to core
business skills including the ability
to read and interpret financial
statements, an understanding
of sources of revenue and drivers
of costs as well as insights into the
ways that organisations are financed
and how this impacts the business. It’s important to understand the
broad economic context in which
organisations operate as well as
some of the economic principles
that impact the firm.
Students will develop an
understanding of their own
abilities and areas for development
and be set up to succeed in an
organisational environment. They
will also develop an understanding
of different approaches to working
with others in their team(s), across
the organisation and with external
stakeholders.
This course provides you with
an understanding of key principles
of self-management and working
with others, by drawing on insights
from management, leadership,
organisational behaviour and
human resources disciplines.
You’ll also be introduced to
principles of extended reporting,
such as triple bottom line, that
seek to provide insights into not
just the financial performance of
organisations but also their social
and environmental impact.
Working in small groups
develops these skills and you’ll
have the opportunity to apply
them outside the classroom.
Students will put together
a personal development plan
that they can use as they start
their business careers. You’ll have the opportunity to apply
the concepts covered in this course
to real-world examples and gain
an appreciation of how they can
be used to help shape business
decisions. By the end of the course
you’ll feel confident using accounting
and financial information and have
