Agri Kultuur September / September 2017 | Page 3

Redaksie | Editorial I t never seizes to amaze me how nature knows that spring has arrived. It happened again this year. On the first of September this year, the sun rose to a glorious day. Everything suddenly looked different from the day before. I suddenly noticed a number of things - the fig trees starting to push the first fresh green leaves with new vigour, new blooms bursting from their buds, birds chirping with the knowledge that the worst of winter is something of the past. You realise that the sun is shining with new enthusiasm, bees are buzzing and you notice something different in the air. This makes one think about the wonders of Mother Earth and all her gifts, water, plants and seasons, all of these blessings to humankind. You can’t help but be awed by the proficiency with which nature was designed and the delicate way in which these elements interact towards providing man and beast with a place under the sun. https://pixabay.com/p-166652/?no_redirect Unfortunately humans tend to forget how delicate the balances are and how important it is to manage our blessings from nature responsibly. In this month’s edition, we tried to cover a number of farming types and systems to address these challenges. We are proud to celebrate AgriKultuur/Culture’s 5 th birthday with a wide variety of topics in our biggest edition ever. We trust you will find some- thing to your taste and enjoy the 126 pages we have prepared for you in this edition. Last but not least, I would like to thank all our readers, contributors and loyal advertisers for making our magazine possible.
