I rrigated agriculture plays a major role in the livelihoods of nations all over the world and although irrigation is one of the oldest known agricultural techniques, improvements are still being made in irrigation practices and methods. In South Africa, on the southern tip of Africa, irrigation is no exception to the rule. Companies, researchers, practitioners and producers play an important role in the advancement, development and implementation of irrigation technology and techniques. Through interaction and contact with the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), who is an international role player, South Africa enjoy continuous access and contact through networking and exchanging of knowledge on irrigation technology to stay abreast with new developments within a global context.
