Tim Vorster of Cape Town Snake Park is passionate about reptiles and shares his knowledge on these fascinating creatures, often feared and destroyed because of misconceptions or a lack of knowledge. Ek is allergies vir swael en kon vir byna vier jaar glad nie wyn drink nie. - een slukkie wyn, en my bors trek heeltemal toe. So knoop ek ‘n paar maande gelede ‘n geselsie aan met een van die bestuurders in ons plaaslike winkel “net om die hoek” toe ek navraag wou doen oor ‘n spesifieke soort asyn wat ek wel kan gebruik. Ek vertel hom van my allergie vir swael, en hoe ek versigtig moet wees met wat ek eet omdat so baie goed swael bevat. Ek noem toe ook net so terloops dat ek ook gladnie wyn kan drink nie waarop hy my vertel van ‘n spesifieke wyn op hul rakke wat geen toegevoegde swael bevat nie. I immediately made a U-turn with my trolley and headed for the wine section, where I bought myself a bottle. On arrival at home, I poured myself a glass and carefully took a tiny sip… and then another… and then I took a bigger sip… and nothing, no coughing, no closed-up chest, just the wonderful taste of a good red wine. I slowly appreciated the nectar of the gods, relishing every sip and patiently awaited the headache which, mercifully, never appeared! Then I realised what I had been missing. I turned to our good friend Google and found that there are a number of South African Wineries producing ‘No Added Sulphur’ wines. Ek klink graag ‘n glasie saam met julle op bladsy 45, Gesondheid!! In Agri Kombuis/Kitchen is daar ‘n resep vir “Beef Olives”, so genoem omdat ‘n dun gesnyde vleisie om ‘n vulsel gerol word, wat dan soos ‘n gevulde olyf lyk. Die vulsel wat ons gebruik het, sluit uiteraard, gekapte olywe in. Ongelukkig is daar nie ‘n manier om die smaak op ‘n foto vas te vang nie. Jy sal dus self hierdie resep moet beproef, en ek glo dat jy sal saamstem dat hierdie gereg baie lekkerder ís as wat sy Afrikaanse naam, Blindevinke, suggereer!
