Editorial | Redaksie D espite the cold and wet conditions experienced here in the winter rainfall areas of the country, things are start- ing to look up as farming conditions are concerned. If one looks at the increase of dam levels in the Western Cape, dam levels have, since last year, risen substantially, im- proving the longer-term prospects for farmers considerably. This is however not the case in large parts of eastern parts of the province and the adjacent parts of the Eastern Cape where dam levels are, in some cases, less than 10%. We trust that they will receive good rains before the end of the season. new technology and disseminate information and provide training on a regional scale. Hoe dit ook al sy, die droogte in Suid-Afrika is, in die lig van aardverwarming, ‘n verskynsel wat maar altyd met ons sal wees en word dit daagliks belangriker dat ons alles in ons ver- moë sal doen om water te bespaar en dit wat ons benut, met die nodige omsigtigheid sal doen. Despite many difficulties and challenges our farmers are currently facing as either the re- sult of politics, economics or natural phenom- ena, it is heartwarming to see how the farming community and organized agriculture, still succeeds to invest in the future of this coun- try. Examples of these are still abundant. I am referring to the many events and expos in this regard that are presented all over the country each year. Farmers in 2018 have been treated to NAMPO Bothaville, the Royal Show in Kwa- Zulu-Natal earlier this year and many other similar events and can now look forward to NAMPO Cape to be held at Bredasdorp Park, Bredasdorp, 12 – 14 September 2018.
