Many positive bacteria are major
contributors to the breakdown of nutrients
that can be readily absorbed by their
tissue.
Conclusion
From the different functionalities in an
Aquaponics system, it can be shown that each
component would contain a different bacterial
community. Samples from the biofilter, plant
roots and periphyton will largely contain the
same genera, but the abundance of each
will varied within the individual samples. A
more thorough characterization of microbial
communities, when possible down to the
species level, linked with biochemical and
system parameters, including more sampling
sites, will be required to be able to link up the
community with its physiological role in an
Aquaponics system.
