Wine estates like Ghost Corner, Strandveld Vineyards,
the Black Oystercatcher, Lomond Wines and many
more today use grapes grown on this portion of land
and the surrounding region, once believed to have
formed part of Antarctica.
The Elim region has become one of the most closelywatched wine producing regions globally – with the
exceptional Elim terroir responsible for creating wines
known for their intense fruit flavours.
In particular, the cool climate and the cool winds together ensure the berries remain small and compact,
with lots of flavour. In fact, the Elim region has never
had a zero wind speed in any given 24-hour period, as
measured by our closest weather station. The diverse
t’s been 20 years since the Elim Wine Ward – close
to the most southerly tip of Africa – first started.
And winemakers from across South Africa’s coolest wine region will come together on 5 November
at the Elim Wine Festival to celebrate and showcase
vintages from this unique region in the Overberg.
