Coming to my experience, that’s vivid, colorful and endless. I normally go out in the early
mornings, typically on a Saturday but I also explore a place during the day time or eve-
nings or even at night. But to me morning is the best time when the streets are empty,
traffic is less, the city is waking up and there are drunkards. So far, during such photo-
walks (when I got out with the sole intention of photography, I call them walks) I have
seen young girls lying motionless on streets after a hard party the night before, I have
seen old men crying (be it for happiness or sorrow) and I have seen people running on
the streets barely dressed. I was also a witness to a humane act when a paramedic meant
for treating human lives was treating a cat that was caught between sharp objects. I re-
ceived glares from a variety of my subjects who did not intend to be shot. I was even at
the receiving end of a Polish verbal abuse while shooting a drunkard and refused to share
my smoke in return. The experience is endless and so is the chronicle. Needless to say the
number of photographer friends I met during such walks and we still interact and go out
occasionally.
Some more experience on the streets –
To cut the long story short, street photography is a form of art through which one can
look and know a place and its people. You do not have to be in possession of a high-end
camera to indulge in it. Eye for human emotions and interesting behavior, love for the
place and its people and culture and tremendous stamina to walk, that’s all you need for
street photography - the short stories of street life.
