what is
the worst
application
of Agile
principles
?
Only applying practices without changing
the business’ culture.
When we are making a transformation and we only see
the concept of practice without considering the concept of
change, it can be dramatic for the organization. It can cause
quality to go down, engagement to drop, and it can create
employee retention problems. When implementing this type
of change, we need to provide a systemic vision and
understand why we are doing it. We also need to seek
guidance to bring forth the value we are
aiming for.

Delivering at a crazy rate.
What is
the worst
measure
of success
?
Measuring only one thing.
There is no measure that is fundamentally wrong, but I
would say that the worst measure is one that measures
only one element and that does not
consider user satisfaction.

Measuring the way we do things.
Agility cannot be measured and we should not measure it in
relation to the methodology we use. Are we actually doing
our dailies? Do we have a backlog? How many Product
Backlog Items come out of it? Are we estimating our user
stories properly? All of this is really specific to a method-
ology. What we propose to clients is to find out why they do
Agility, as well as the measures that will allow them to reach
their goal. Are they delivering more quickly to the client? Are
they delivering more business value? We need to measure
intentions rather than the way we do
things.

It’s important not to think that because we are doing Agility,
we can start delivering at crazy, unsustainable paces, or that
we can stop documenting and start changing priorities every
day without consequence.

Before becoming Agile experts and being able to guide organizations
with their Agile transitions, our consultants were practitioners themselves.
Like any Agilist, that have made mistakes.
