EDITOR’S NOTE
I
n August 2000, INsite was
launched as a bimonthly
newspaper for Australia’s
growing independent aged
care industry.
Among the key aims set
out by founding managing
editor Heidi Williams was for
the newspaper to establish
an ongoing exchange of
information that would
benefit both the industry and
the community.
“INsite will play the pivotal
role in this endeavour,”
Williams wrote in the first
edition. “There is a need
for an independent and
alternative medium that will
inform, educate and provide
a forum for reader opinion
and discussion.”
One hundred issues later,
despite the myriad pressures
and opportunities that have
influenced the evolution
of both the sector and
this publication, Williams’
fundamental goals remain
the guiding tenets of what
has since evolved to be
known as Aged Care Insite.
Now a monthly print and
digital publication that also
provides daily news, analysis
and commentary online,
Aged Care Insite continues
to highlight and give voice
to experts on the important
issues stemming from and
affecting aged care.
The reputation of this
publication has been hard
earned, thanks to the work
of the many staff who have
ensured Aged Care Insite
remains an important forum
for the sector after 17 years.
It also owes a great debt
to the countless aged care
and ageing sector leaders,
carers, academics, experts
and other stakeholders
whose editorial contributions
continue to give life to the
enormous conversation that
Williams and her team began
in 2000. n
