PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The 23,500 square foot building features 12 primary care exam
rooms, two medical procedure rooms, “telemedicine” technology, dental, optometry,
pharmacy, x-ray facilities, behavioral health treatment services, conference room, and
administrative spaces. The full-service clinic provides essential medical services to the
previously underserved residents of the Mountain Empire community. The New Family
Medicine Center had been designed with a concrete structure and was over budget.
Due to the inability to receive concrete in a timely manner, the project team suggested
a wood frame structure (more viable in a rural setting), which cost $300,000 less than the
concrete framing.

PROJECT: Rental Car Center at the San Diego International Airport

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This $240 million, two million square-foot structure,
brings 14 rental car companies under one roof, including a customer
service building, maintenance, fueling and washing, and a 5,400-car
ready/return area. The Rental Car Center is now the largest concrete structure in San
Diego, and it generated approximately 4,600 construction jobs. Construction included
the demolition of a pedestrian bridge over Pacific Highway and the relocation of existing
utilities. Expert concrete techniques were used to install two million square feet of concrete
in just 12 months. The joint venture worked closely with the Airport Authority, the rental car
agencies and several small tenant improvement contractors to ensure that the project
opened as scheduled.
