USA Women's Soccer team demands Equal Play, Equal Pay

he final whistle blows on Sunday, January 5th at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium at the 2015 Women’s World Cup final. The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is the World Champion. With winning the world cup, the women earned a total of $2 million.

To celebrate their victory, the USWNT decided it was time to fight back against the unfair treatment they had been receiving in comparison to the U.S Men’s national team who is ranked 29th according to current FIFA records.

The previous year the men’s team got paid $9 million even when they failed to make it past round 16 in the men’s world cup. As reported in Q13 Fox News, the women’s team can earn $4,950 for the first 20 regular season games only if they win. If they lose, they receive nothing.

As for the men, no matter how many games they play, winning games can earn them up to $17,625 and losing results in getting paid only $5,000. During the 2016 season, the women won almost double what the men did, and they still earned significantly less amounts of money.
