The Fight for Power Through The American Civil Liberties Union

What Exactly is The ACLU?

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is an organization that helps to defend citizens and fight for their rights that are guaranteed by the laws and constitution of the United States of America. What we want to know is if the ACLU is actually effective in assisting the people? I found a few cases in which the ACLU has helped the people defend their rights by taking them to the Supreme Court.

This phote symbolizes that not everyone has the right to vote which is unfair

Kelli Griffin after her court case.

Case 1: Griffin vs. Pate

Kelli Griffin, an Iowan mother, lost her rights to vote permanently, due to a drug conviction. Kelli served the time of her probation and was discharged. But she is still not allowed to vote due to Iowa being 1 of the 3 states in which the people lose their voting rights permanently for a single felony conviction. You may ask yourself if this is constitutional or not. Well, ACLU filed a law suit in behalf of Kelli Griffin because they agreed that this was not fair.
