Rapping Against Injustice
NWA was a small American hip hop group from Compton, California. They were the earliest and most successful group of gangster rap. But even more importantly, they were a voice for their people against the injustice faced by racist law enforcement. Their music went from1986 to 1991, and they were voted 83 in the top 100 music groups.
Eric Lynn Wright (Easy-E) was born September 7, 1964, and died March 26, 1995. He was an American rapper who performed solos, and he was in the hip hop group N.W.A. He was called “The Godfather of Gangsta Rap.”
Tracy Lynn Curry (The D.O.C) was an American rapper from Dallas. He was a member of the hip hop group called Fila Fresh Crew, then he later moved with a gangsta rap group called N.W.A. While in that group, he wrote many of their releases. He also wrote Eazy-E’s solo.
Lorenzo Jerald Patterson (MC Ren) was born June 16, 1969, in Compton California. He is the founder and owner of the record label Villain Entertainment. While still in high school, he joined the N.W.A, and he also wrote Eazy-E’s debut album.
O’Shea Jackson Sr. (Ice Cube) was born June 15, 1969. He is a rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, and filmmaker. He began his career in a hip hop group called C.I.A and later joined the gangsta rap group N.W.A. When he left the N.W.A in December 1989, he built a successful solo career in music and also played a role in a film called Boyz n the Hood.
Andre Romelle Young (Dr. Dre) was born February 18, 1965. He was the CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics. Dre began his career as a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru and later found fame in a gangsta rap. group called N.W.A.
Antoine Carraby (DJ Yella) was born December 11, 1967. He is an American DJ, record producer, and film director from Compton California. He was a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru. He later became a founding member of the pioneering gangsta rap group called N.W.A.
