Mystery still surrounds the identity of the vendor whose non-compliant products triggered Harley ' s production shutdown back in May - a shutdown that actually lasted 19 days resuming on June 6 . Jochen Zeitz eventually confirmed that the part in question was brake lines , specifically components provided by a Tier 2 vendor to one of its Tier 1 suppliers . Speculation has suggested that the ' problem child ' was Brembo , and that could kind of be true . However , as we here at AMD understand it ( but we ' ll be happy to correct if we are wrong ), Harley brake lines are generally provided either by Hitachi - these days presumably through the Hitachi Astemo JV with Honda that includes Showa , Kiehan and Nissin - or JJuan , who are headquartered in Spain , but who were bought by Brembo in 2021 . Zeitz did not provide detail on what was actually wrong with the brake hoses , except to say the issue was regulatory in nature - so it could have been anything from a typo in hose sleeve coding or a major component fail . Harley typically had been producing around 4,500 motorcycles a week before the stoppage , but CFO Gina Goetter stated that the 19-day delay translated to a loss of production of 10,000 to 12,000 motorcycles . Since production resumed , she said that the production rate had risen above 4,500 units per week , which should allow Harley to meet its initial production targets for the year .
