Welcome to the 2015 Spring ASPLS The sessions listed in this catalog are open to District 287 member, non-member and internal staff. Cost: $40 per session for member and non-member staff payable online via credit card only. In the event of cancellation, refunds will be accepted 48 hours in advance of the session by email request to [email protected]. District 287 Staff Incentives: *Sessions are offered at no charge. *Licensed staff will receive a $50 stipend for each session attended, up to 4 sessions (8 hours of training). Stipends will not be offered for sessions that are aligned with license renewal requirements. * Non-licensed staff will receive a $25 stipend for each session attended, up to 4 sessions (8 hours of training). Scott is in his 5th year as an instructor of transition age students (1821yrs). Prior to that he spent several years working as a paraprofessional while obtaining a license/masters in EBD from the University of St Thomas. Scott holds a Bachelor of Individualized Studies from the University of Minnesota with focuses in Management, Communications, and History of American Technology. His undergraduate degree foreshadows the passion Scott holds for learning/teaching technology, including topics such as Android, Google, mobile device technology, and social networking. Curious about the digital world around us, Scott strives to blend the new with the traditional as a means to enhance the learning environment. Kathy Utter has over 20 years of experience in the area of special education: 7 years as a Social Emotional Learning Coordinator, 10 years as a Social Worker and 6 years as an Autism Specialist. She was a charter member of the District 287 Social Emotional Steering Committee. Kathy has reviewed many social emotional learning curricula and is our inhouse expert regarding the appropriate population - curriculum matches. Brian Wheat is currently a Biology and Food Science instructor at South Education Center Alternative High School. He serves as the SEC site Schoolyard Garden Coordinator and Facilitator. Brian studied Botany at SUNY Oswego and The University of Tasmania, received his Ed.M. at the University of Buffalo, New York, and is currently a member of the Minnesota Schoolyard Garden Coalition’s training and facilitation subgroup. After recently attending the Edible Schoolyard Academy in Berkeley, CA, He and the Garden Team at SEC presented their practices at the Minnesota Schoolyard Garden Conference held at the Minnesota Arboretum.
