area was the property of the Sierra Leone Army (S.L.A), now the Republic Of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). The field was mainly utilized by the Army for the conduction of muster parades, which is how the name of the field came about.
In 1992, Parade Field was officially handed over to the management of Central One Football Association (C.O.F.A), which is a well-known body for organizing football competitions in Central Freetown. Before then they use to conduct their tournaments at the National Fire Force Sports Ground going way back to the 1970s.
Under the management of COFA, Parade Field became the home of one of the most popular football league in Sierra Leone's history. The first tournament that was organized on the grounds was an Under 14 Inter-Area competition in 1992. COFA went on to organize successive successful competitions at various levels of football, ranging from Under 14’s, 17’s, 18’s and 21 non-division leagues. Other types of football tournaments held at Parade Field include but not limited to; cultural, religious and a variety of commercial leagues.
Parade Field is a Treasure to Sierra Leone Sports and should be preserved as such.
In its long existence as a football arena, Parade Field has become a nurturing cradle for a great number of Sierra Leone's finest footballers. Names like, Gbassay Sesay, Junior Parade, Mohamed Kallon, Kemokai Kallon, Amidu Karim, Lamin Conteh, Pa Saffa, Gallon Pan, Donald Wellington and many more, have all plied their trade in the early going of their careers at this legendary and hallowed ground of the beautiful game in Sierra Leone.
During the Civil War in Sierra Leone, Parade Field was used as a displaced camp from 1999 until 2001.
