Ghana’s New Found Love
Arm Wrestling
The President of the Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF), Mr. Charles Osei
Asibey aka ‘Barrister’ was very happy when his name and the National Arm
Wrestling Team – Golden Arms were nominated by the Sports Writers Association of
Ghana (SWAG) for its 43rd Awards Night scheduled for April this year in Accra. The
event would form part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the eminent body.

The Golden Arms as the National Arm wrestling
Team is known have the highest haul of medals
(22) from a single international competition in
Nigeria where they for the first time
participated in the 8th African Arm Wrestling
Championship. They will be in contention at
the SWAG Awards with the Home based Black
Stars Team that won the 2017 West African
Football Union (WAFU) tournament as well as
the National Female hockey Team – Black
Sticks Ladies who won Silver at the 2017
Hockey Africa Cup of Nations and also
qualified to the 2018 Gold Coast
Commonwealth Games in Australia.
The “Golden Arms” National Team travelled to
Nigeria and placed an overall 2nd in the
African Championships in Lagos last July
(2017). It was indeed their first time
participating in an international event, which
won Ghana the right to host the next edition in
Accra. GAF President, Charles Osei Asibey
also nominated for the Federation President of
the Year for his immense contribution to the
promotion and development of Arm-wrestling
