Malawi
Malawi has been part of global sporting
activities for decades since independence
from the British. Despite appearances and
steady participation in global sporting
events like the Summer Olympic Games
success continues to elude the country.
The only success Malawi has ever had are
three bronze medals won in the 1970s and
80s in boxing at the Commonwealth
Games.
Sports journalist Patrick Lunda has
followed Malawi sporting fortunes and
failures over the years; He says the country
experienced stagnation and a steep fall in
performances at international sporting
events for a number of factors ranging
from bad policies to lack of finances.
