International Women’s Day Message A letter from our team at African Sports Monthly Magazine to women athletes, sports administrators, sports journalists and fans of various sports disciplines all over the world. To our Sisters, Daughters Aunties, Niece and most of all our mothers, We wish to observe International Women’s Day on this 8th Day of March 2015 in solidarity with you all around the world and especially so in Africa. With unflinching support of your dreams and ideals to become whatever you want to be and serve in whatever capacity you choose to, we want to assure you that African Sports Monthly Magazine will guarantee you equal support and coverage of what you do in your field of discipline as we do male athletes and officials across the continent and beyond. We urge you to reach for the stars and not be afraid of shining as brightly as the star that you are, for it is your destiny to become God’s greatest gift to mankind and this earth. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise or that you are less than what you truly are. Let no one steal your joy, beauty and success because of their own insecurities. Be strong; believe in yourself even in the moment of greatest doubt. African Sports Monthly Magazine believes in the power and strength of Africa’s women athletes, sports administrators, sports journalists and celebrates the unflinching support of women fans of all sport disciplines. We wish to acknowledge our women staff members at this Magazine who have worked and continue to work with us diligently to bring you the best Stories in sports out there; Ms. Lango Deen Sankoh of the USA, Assistant Editor and Senior Writer & Ms. Annimari Korte of Finland Senior Writer and Contributor and in past years Ms. Isatu Gbla. In the field of Sports Administration we are proud to indicate and acknowledge Ms. Lydia Nsekera of Burundi as the first ever woman Football (Soccer) Administrator in Africa and the world. She was once the President of the Burundi Football Federation and even though she no longer occupies that position she however continues to serve on the FIFA Executive Committee to which she was appointed in 2012 (a first for any woman globally). 1
