Incidents Although a small nation (28,000 km2) with a small population (1.6 million), accommodation and transport facilities posed little or no problems for the thousands of visitors that attended the tournament. Security inside and outside the stadiums was good enough across the 32 matches played despite a few where we saw major incidents. Standard According to many pundits reporting at the 2015 Afcon, the general competing level of the tournament was very high. In the group stage, we had 13 draws, with Group D’s second berth holder between Guinea and Mali being decided by a draw. Plenty of goals later added flavour to the show. In the quarterfinals, 16 goals were scored while another seven were netted in the semi-finals. In all, a total of 68 goals were scored. Two major incidents could be said to have sullied the beautiful game. The controversial penalty awarded to Equatorial Guinea against Tunisia in the quarter finals and the misconduct of local fans at the Malabo stadium during the Nzalang Nacional’s, Equatorial Guinea team nicknamed, 3-0 loss against Ghana in the semi-finals. Despite the fact that those situations are not unprecedented in African or world football, they need to be condemned strongly. The third place and final matches were stretched into extra time which is another proof of the competitiveness. 2
