he sports sector is a significant social mobilization factor for any nation on earth and a mainstay of
hope for the youth of any community. So putting the right people in place to run a national sports
apparatus is key to building capacity to effect national development.
Sierra Leone as a nation has gone through a lot in the last decade and a half which halted most aspects of life.
After an 11 years civil war and the recent outbreaks of Cholera and Ebola, the country has not only been

Recently a new national sports Director was appointed to help lead the charge in the revival and
revitalization of the sports sector, which like most aspects of life went through a prolonged period of lull and
average output.
Mr. Ibrahim Bangura who came to office in September of 2015 recently spoke to African Sports Monthly
about his appointment and plans for the sports sector in Sierra Leone:
African Sports Monthly (ASM): - You got Appointed as the National Sports Director for the Sierra Leone
National Sports Council, a major position in sports in the country; tell us what your reaction was when you
first got the news about you getting the job;
Bangura:
I was appointed in September 2015 and am very happy to be part of the
sporting family in Sierra Leone, especially as the professional head of the
Ministry and the National Sports Council of my country. It is a privilege and
opportunity to give back and to ensure the expeditious development of sports
in the country regardless of the herculean task ahead.
Mr. Ibrahim Bangura
ASM: - People in the country and around the world will like to get to know you
as a person and what you have accomplished, so could you tell us who Ibrahim
Bangura is, as a person and a sports aficionado;
