The government of Ethiopia has approved Canadian company East
Africa Metals’ mining licences. The government approved the mining
licences for the Mato Bula gold copper and Da Tambuk gold deposits
of East Africa’s 100% owned Adyabo project in the Tigray National
Regional State of Ethiopia. West African focused Golden Rim Resources recently
commenced its 17 000m reverse circulation drilling (RC)
and 4 000m diamond drilling programme at its Kouri gold
project in Burkina Faso. The company will use Capital
Drilling’s multi-purpose rig for the purpose. According to
the company the RC drilling will be conducted first, followed
by the diamond drilling during the height of the rainy season
from July to August.
Licence to mine
With the acquisition of the Mato Bula and Da Tambuk, East Africa’s
assets now include four, fully permitted gold and base metal mining
projects in Africa with total indicated and inferred resources of 2.8
million gold and gold-equivalent ounces and exploration upside.
East Africa Minerals has undertaken test work at a number of its African sites.
According to Andrew Lee Smith, CEO at East Africa, the mining
licence agreements for Mato Bula and Da Tambuk have been formally
approved by the Ministry of Mines Petroleum and Natural Gas
(MoMPNG), the Prime Minister’s Office and the Council of Ministers.
Smith says that the awarding of the Mato Bula and Da Tambuk
mining licences marks an important milestone for East Africa,
the Government of Ethiopia and the MoMPNG. “East Africa’s
management will now focus on negotiations with development partners
to advance all of the company’s assets in Ethiopia and Tanzania and
engage further exploration programmes to continue the growth of the
company’s mineral resources and shareholder value,” says Smith.

Gold
RC drilling commenced in the river channel area of the footwall
shear, following up a recently obtained high-grade drill intercept
of 4m at 44.7 grams per tonne of gold. Four holes have been
completed at the footwall shear and the rig is now drilling infill
holes in an area of higher grade gold mineralisation situated in
the southern portion of the mineral resource.
Golden Rim is preparing a new geological model for the
gold lodes that comprise the mineral resource. This new
model incorporates a flatter interpretation of the gold lodes
(which was confirmed by a structural study conducted
by SRK Consulting) and a 0.3g/t gold cut-off grade.
Preliminary results from this modelling indicate the flatter
interpretation improves the continuity of the gold lodes.

Strike lengths extended

Copper
The strike length of the shallow, thick, massive copper sulphide
mineralisation at Kamoa North that was discovered earlier this
year from a drill hole on the Kamoa-Kakula mining licence in
the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which proved up
results of 13.05% copper over 22.3m (true thickness), at a 2%
copper cut-off grade, has been significantly extended by assays
received from ongoing drilling.
According to a statement by the company, recent drilling has
confirmed that the discovery zone of bonanza-grade copper
mineralisation at Kamoa North, known as the Kamoa North
Bonanza Zone, is continuous over a strike length of at least
350m and a width of up to 60m.

The mineralised zone has a drilled thickness of between six
and 30m, and is approximately 170m to 220m below surface,
with grades ranging as high as 18.48% copper over 13.6m, at
both a 2% and a 3% cut-off grade.
