One of Zambia ’ s biggest mining companies , Mopani Copper Mines PLC has been awarded the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply ( CIPS ) Corporate Ethics Kite Mark for demonstrating its commitment to investing in ethical practices in its procurement and supply chain professionals and activities .

The company is playing a crucial role in Zambia ’ s efforts to increase copper mining output to three million tonnes a year by 2032 , a target high on President Hakainde Hichilema ’ s agenda since coming to power in August 2021 .
Mopani Copper Mines is going to great lengths to become a world-class operation , and to this end , has aligned its 71 supply chain employees with CIPS , a UK-based global professional body representing the procurement and supply chain profession , to ensure that they are benchmarked against the highest international standards . Mopani has also become a CIPS member .
The CIPS Corporate Ethics Kite Mark recognises these efforts . The accolade publically reinforces an organisation ’ s assurance of ethical sourcing and supplier management , and signals to suppliers , customers , potential employees and other stakeholders that they are dealing with an entity that is committed to ensuring its staff are trained in ethical sourcing and supplier management , and that they have adopted ethical values in the way in which they source and manage suppliers .
“ We are grateful for the assistance given by CIPS in our quest to become world-class and the award of the Corporate Ethical and Procurement certificate of achievement is testament to the partnership and continuing support ,” said Mopani Copper Mines Supply Chain manager , Gershom Tanga in April this year .
Craig O ’ Flaherty , head of CIPS for Business , CIPS Africa , said , “ The CIPS Corporate Ethics Kite Mark reinforces Mopani Copper Mines ’ commitment to ethical sourcing and supply chain management and is a shining example to other organisations in Zambia to do the same .”
Mopani Copper Mines ultimately aims to have all 71 supply chain professionals achieve the Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply ( MCIPS ) status , providing a significant career advantage tha enables members to increase their earning potential .

With its focus on product quality , responsive service and high stockholding , Pilot Crushtec has continued to grow in Africa by responding rapidly to customers ’ crushing and screening needs with reliable solutions .
Whether the operational pressure is on mine production or project start-up time , there is seldom any time to lose when a mining customer in Africa needs a crushing solution , according to the company ’ s Africa sales manager Wayne Warren . Manufacturing lead times and logistical delays – where equipment may need transporting across borders to remote areas – can often frustrate customers in the mining sector .
“ A recent contract in Zambia showed the value that we bring to customers ’ operations by being quick off the mark with the right equipment ,” says Warren . “ A customer contacted us to discuss their urgent need for a crushing solution , and within a month they could push the button on site and begin operations with a Pilot Crushtec plant .”
This was despite the equipment taking two weeks on the road to reach the site , he notes . With the company ’ s strategy of prioritising its large stockholding , it was also able to recently assist another African mining operation with a full modular plant solution at short notice .
