o The spend by surveyed companies was 10.9 % against the 5 % target, earning full points. Collectively, companies spent just over R13-billion with women or youth-owned suppliers.
• BEE-compliant suppliers: These are companies that are at least 25 % + 1 vote HDP owned and have a minimum of a level 4 B-BBEE contributor status under the Department of Trade Industry and Competition( DTIC) Codes. o The surveyed companies achieved 68.6 %, surpassing the 44 % target, and therefore achieving full points. Over R83- billion was spent with BEE compliant companies.
Results: Services Target on Services: To spend at least 80 % on South African manufactured goods: 50 % on HDP suppliers, 15 % on womenowned suppliers, 5 % on youth-owned suppliers, and 10 % on BEE compliant suppliers.
Performance: The 80 % target on Services was missed slightly as the 15 % target for women-owned suppliers was not achieved. A total of 19.84 / 20 points was achieved.
It is time to re-evaluate and design for impact with a shared understanding of what transformed and sustainable sectors ought to be.
• HDP suppliers: surveyed companies achieved 54.3 % of the spend, exceeding the 50 % target and earning full points. Collectively, companies procured over R81-billion with HDP suppliers.
• Women-owned suppliers: surveyed companies spent 14.5 % against the 15 % target, receiving 4.84 / 5 points. Almost R22- billion was spent with women-owned businesses.
• Youth-owned suppliers: surveyed companies achieved 6.3 %, exceeded the 5 % target and securing full points. Over R9 billion was procured from youth-owned businesses.
• BEE compliant suppliers: surveyed companies achieved 61.6 %, far exceeding the 10 % target and earning full points. Collectively, companies procured over R92-billion with BEE compliant suppliers.
These results are commendable. They disprove the inaccurate and misleading statements about the mining industry’ s lack of transformation. Collectively these mining right holders have complied with the MC2018 targets and, in many subcategories, exceeded them.
Results: ESD ESD under MC2018 does not have a target, however a total of R1.8-billion was invested on ESD initiatives during CY2023 by the 85 mining right holders surveyed. ESD includes monetary and nonmonetary support for existing or for the development of new HDP, women-owned, youth-owned or BEE compliant companies. These companies must also be small, micro or medium sized enterprises( SMMEs) with a turnover less than R50-million per annum.
