I t is a building with large architectural and emotional dimension due to the pathologies that it will cover and to which it was proposed; a sober image, institutional but bright, occupying land of around six hectares. The building, originally projected by an Algerian firm, was totally adapted by S+A to the most modern concepts of humanization of clinical spaces and architectural image, and also aims for a correct integration on the peripheral zone of the old city, through simple, sober and efficient constructive solutions. This hospital facility of around 60 000m2, 140 rooms and three LINACs for radiotherapy, was considered to certify a high level of clinic quality, creating comfort not only to the patients but also for the health professionals. Therefore, the solution proposed pays special attention to the insulation and acoustic requirements that a health unit demands, proper for the region’s climate, being at the same time permeable to natural light, with a high contact with the surroundings, aiming to prevent the sensation of exclusion that these patients are usually subject to.
