African project Oracle offices – Ghana ACTICON & MECHOSHADE SHARE THEIR VIEWS: Grow Acticon The construction of Oracle headquarters in Accra is another project in the office and retail area that has consolidated Grow Acticon’s portfolio in this sector. A large, functional space built to accommodate in excellent conditions the office of this global brand. The challenge from Oracle required by Grow Acticon was the construction, as well as a rigorous procurement schedule and import of various materials, coatings and equipment used in construction. Grow Acticon highlight the interior finishes that have ceilings and walls in plasterboard and mineral fibres, wood coatings with panelling, floors (vinyl , carpet and ceramic ), aluminium partitions , decorative vinyls, and all electrical and mechanical installations, providing a comfortable place for all its users and proudly delivered before the deadline. The outcome is a truly international space for a company with recognized claims and that has earned compliments from several entities. “Finally, we must mention the excellent cooperation we had, both on the part of Source 8 (UK) acting as representative of the Owner and Project Manager, and for HOK (UK) associated with Orthner Orthner and Associates (Ghana) acting as designers and consultants,” says Grow Acticon General Manager, Arménio Felício. Mechoshade Nigeria Limited MechoShade Nigeria Limited, Sole agents to Mechosystems Inc in Sub-Saharan Africa, worked in conjunction with Accra-based Orthner, Orthner & Associates to provide optimum window management solutions to the Oracle project. They used their manually operated roller shade system which provides optimum solar protection with a view. MechoShade is in the business of shading. Their shade cloths (material, woven into roller shade fabric) improve work place environments by providing solar protection, reducing radiant solar energy and glare on work surfaces and computer screens. The significant reduction in solar heat gain adds greater comfort and improves occupants’ wellbeing. It also reduces a building’s reliance on electrical lighting by better controlling natural light, thereby reducing the energy requirement of the building with huge cost savings. 16 “Often in Africa we give up on quality and maintaining a high standard in construction because we assume it is not possible. At OOA we believe that international standards are possible locally and we do our best to achieve it in all our projects, including Oracle” – Martin Orthner, OOA africandesignmagazine.com
