In Closing the world’s buildings Waldspirale is a residential building complex in Darmstadt, Germany, built in the 1990s. The name translates into English as forest spiral, reflecting both the general plan of the building and the fact that it has a green roof. It was designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, planned and implemented by architect Heinz M. Springmann, and constructed by the Bauverein Darmstadt company. The green roof complex has 105 apartments, residential and commercial parking for cafe and bar, the last two being located at the top of the spiral. The building has over a thousand windows, none of which are alike. Read more about it HERE or watch a video on the building HERE africandesignmagazine.com 87
