Celebrating African design!
What a great response to our launch issue last month! We have received
overwhelmingly positive feedback from all four corners of the globe and have been
connecting with readers from throughout Africa and the world.
Our second issue has been a gratifying one to put together and includes several
interesting articles on impressive buildings, built and under construction, from Africa
and abroad. We’ll start at the top and work our way down... we feature Cubity, a
pioneering example of sustainable student housing in Germany, then turn our focus
to the TianTai No.2 Primary School in China which solves the problem of a lack of
space by placing its running track on its roof.
Moving into Africa, we start in Sudan and dissect the Paediatric Centre in Port Sudan,
which is referred to as the world’s most sustainable hospital. Ethiopia is next and we
learn more about the new head quarters for Ethiopian
Airlines in Addis Ababa before moving onto Nigeria and
the Ramzi Tower project, which when complete will be
an iconic building in Lagos. Next is Mauritius where we
feature the recently opened Westin Turtle Bay Resort
& Spa. Finally we visit a project in South Africa; the
colourful and vibrant WebhelpSA Call Centre.
We are having a lot of fun working on African Design
Magazine and are inspired on a daily basis by the
innovation, integrity and pure passion of our
continent’s designers. Enjoy reading our second
issue and feel free to send us your latest news, projects,
thoughts and ideas to share and connect with fellow
architects and designers from all four corners of
the globe. AD
