Coprox: Before good walls go bad
The overall appearance of your walls singularly accounts for the impact of your interior.
Not only for its decorative appeal, but certainly for its longevity and sustainability. Damp is
not something you want to contend with – especially in areas with high moisture exposure
like bathrooms. Bearing in mind that there is little you can do to remedy poor construction
practices, it does pay to invest a little time and effort to waterproof your walls properly. And
while there is a wide range of waterproofing products available, we find that if you count
ease of application, durability and quality finishes, you’d be hard pressed to beat Coprox
products. The added benefit is that it can be used as a decorative finish too – it’s a costeffective alternative to plaster and paint – ideal if you want to create that rustic look.
If there is damp in your walls, especially rising damp, you first have to tackle the source of
the problem. No paint, nor plaster just yet. If there is a damp problem, it shouldn’t take too
long to remove the old plaster
and expose the culprit. It could
be a poorly waterproofed shower,
the lack of a damp proof course
causing rising damp or even from
over flowing bath water. Check the
other side of the bathroom wall
too.
Once the plaster has been
removed and the raw brick
exposed, and the source of the
damp identified, you have several
solutions on offer from the Coprox
range of waterproofing products.
To save you time and money,
you can even use Coprox as your
final finish – it is available in 20
attractive colours.
Step one: Re-plaster the culprit
walls. Add 2.5kg Coprox Waterproof Cement Additive to every bag of cement used in the
plaster mix. Make sure that the recognised plaster mix ratios of plaster sand to cement are
adhered to.
Step two: By now you are tired and want to get the job over and done with. Well, instead
of still having to apply a plaster primer on top of everything else once the plaster is dry,
you can skip all of the paint chemistry – simply choose a colour from the Coprox Masonry
Waterproofing or Coprox Waterproof Dualcoat range – it’s so easy.
If you are tiling, use Coprox Waterproof Tile Grout. It can be used for both the wall and floor
tiles and is available in attractive colours – even for showers outdoors. And, you don’t even
have to leave home and book into a hotel – there are no unpleasant odours to contend with.
