The team at Golf Data responsible for this Trophy winning project included Landscape Architect Albertus Viljoen , who was responsible for the concept plans and graphics ; Chairman Robbie Marshall , who continuously encourages a high work ethic and quality standard ; managing director Gary Waage , who is involved in all facets of Golf Data ’ s projects , from design through construction to handover , and plays a key role in the liaison between his company and the client , Steyn City Properties . Jacques Moukarzel is the Senior Construction Manager at Golf Data ; while Pieter du Plessis heads up the Civils Division . Tembelani Mbodli ‘ Shoes ’ is the Professional Shaper and Operator ; while Andries Schonken is Head of Golf Data ’ s Landscape Maintenance at Steyn City ; and Samuel Mashawu is the Maintenance Supervisor at Riverglen 4 .
The stream ( known on site by the American term ‘ creek ’) manages stormwater but has , in Viljoen ’ s words , a vibrant aesthetic because of the sight and sound of water , and the constant changes in the flow of the stream . It serves to attract wildlife , which will also add value to adjacent stands and enjoyment to owners , and its banks provide both passive and active recreation in the form of a walking / jogging / golf cart pathway and dams for fishing . The stream collects and filters stormwater from the catchment , and this eventually flows into the main retention pond . With all the level changes , it was difficult to use technical drawings and plans on site . There was a hands-on approach to the stream and pathway . Viljoen mentioned that each team member had his role to play and that he himself enjoyed the work on site , such as creating platforms before waterfalls or rapids , leading into a number of ponds . The meticulous placement of boulders and rocks harvested from site add to the realistic feel of the stream , while small detailed changes were made on an ad hoc basis , during construction , to alter the human experience of the stream as it flows , ripples and gushes downhill . The winding of the golf cart path boulevard as it crosses stone clad bridges adds an extra aesthetic dimension to The Views ( Riverglen 4 .)
The plant choice included marginal and aquatic species which filter the water : Click here to read more about the project africandesignmagazine . com 39
