African project Art Café and Juice Bar – Libya T he 311m2 café and juice bar, which is unique to the area, was designed with creative people in mind, such as writers, hand crafters, musicians, designers and arts fans. The concept of the semi-private café was to divide it in such a way to offer privacy as well as to host multiple groups at the same time for brainstorming gatherings, such as art student workshops and events, all while enjoying contemporary art. All the materials used for this project were carefully selected to provide a cozy environment; the paintings are a mix of modern and neoclassical styles, while the furniture design is modern. Illumination was also cleverly incorporated into the interiors by using both direct and indirect lights, spot lights, wall side hidden lights, ceiling hidden lights and chandeliers, and of course natural light from the glass façade. Interior walls are covered in rustic white Greek stone and the floor in a light wooden texture. Prior to the design phase, the Odysseia Architects team studied the visitors’ behaviour, either coming for the art, using the space as a brainstorming hosting place or just visitors who want to sip a coffee and talk. 48 africandesignmagazine.com
