winners. The SALI Awards of Excellence are presented each year at the South African
Green Industries Council’s (SAGIC) convention. This year’s convention was held at
Protea Hotel, Stellenbosch from 7 to 9 June 2016. Awards were presented for projects in
each of the categories at the levels of Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit. The top awards are
crowned with floating trophies in various categories.
Life Landscapes won the Rand Water Trophy for the Best Water Wise Entry. This is a
joint venture with RealGreen and it was awarded for their water wise projects done at
Sun City. According to national judge, Morne Faulhammer, the drought that many areas
in South Africa have been experiencing was evident in the projects. It is for this reason
that the water wise category should be highlighted as the one area in landscaping that
will no doubt expand in years to come, as we grapple with water shortages. Water wise
practices have become common place in landscape construction, however, more needs
to be done. Apart from the trophy award, Life Landscapes also won a merit award, a
bronze award, seven silver and 13 gold awards.
