Africa’s premier international design fair returns GUILD is back. Having attracted worldwide acclaim and over 8 500 visitors during the inaugural fair in early 2014, GUILD, Africa’s only international design fair, returns to Cape Town for the second time with even more designer clout in 2015, an extraordinary legacy for World Design Capital Cape Town. GUILD opens to the public from 25 February until 1 March at The Lookout, V&A Waterfront, where visitors will enter through a custom-designed pavilion by groundbreaking firm Antoni Associates. Continuing the legacy started at GUILD 2014, the theme of designer-maker and global exchange will be the primary focus, with collaborations already taking place between visiting design stars and South African design studios. Guest designer, Frederik Molenschot, of Studio Molen will be working with Swaziland’s Gone Rural over the coming months Afreaks’, a collaboration with South Africa’s master beading company Monkeybiz and Bronze Age Foundry, comprises overscaled fantasy animal like forms named satirically after celebrities, like Tail-lor Swift and Al Gor-illa, with giant 2.5-metre mushrooms setting the Afreaka landscape. This collaboration will have a significant impact for the global profile of these local companies. R & Company will once again show new work by popular GUILD 2014 designers Jeff Zimmerman and David Wiseman. Guided tours by Fair Director Trevyn McGowan, as well as designer walkabouts, school tours and a schedule of special events will be offered to fair visitors, who will have the opportunity to enjoy a drink and meal at The Striped Horse on The Lookout deck pre- and post-fair viewing.
