African project: Malapa Krynauw Nel Associates undertakes a wide scope of architectural work both locally and internationally. This includes bush lodges, resorts, heritage sites, industrial and commercial work, individual residences and cluster developments, whether these projects are newly designed spaces or the transformation of existing structures. Of particular interest to the practice are challenging and sensitive sites. ABOUT KRYNAUW NEL ASSOCIATES Several estate developments have also retained the services of Krynauw Nel Associates to facilitate development and to act as main aesthetic architect. Krynauw Nel graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1989 having received several certificates of merit. He completed his first residential projects while still a student and spent a year travelling the Middle East, Europe and America. In 1987, he completed a practical year with an architectural firm in London, specializing in upmarket residential work in areas such as Little Venice, Chelsea and Mayfair. After graduating, he spent a year with a commercial practice in Pretoria before setting up his own practice in 1994. In 2014, Krynauw Nel Associates celebrates its 20th year and is proud to have been delivering a hands-on architectural design service – with accent on detail and finish. africandesignmagazine.com 55
