Founded in 2005, Kéré Architecture strives to support the educational, cultural, and sustainable needs of
communities in Burkina Faso and around the world through sustainable building practices. Their projects
range from large urban-scale developments in Germany to residential design in Mozambique. Working
across continents from Africa to Europe, they strive to engage localities in their design and construction
approach. Their successful integration of local building material, local knowledge, and local technologies
continues to win international acclaim through awards and publications.

ith funds raised by
Operieren in Afrika, the
new Surgical Clinic and
Health Center was opened
in April 2014. The Center
is equipped with surgical
facilities, an in-patient
ward, and a maternity
unit. Morgue facilities and
staff housing will also be
added in the upcoming building phases.
The goal of the project was not just to build a
medical facility for an impoverished area, but also
to create inspiring architecture made by the people.
A fundamental goal of Kéré Architecture is to work
closely with local communities and resources to
maximize sustainable and developmental impact.
Kéré Architecture was able to hire local workers and
provide training in innovative building methods. In
this sense, the local labor is able to use their skills in
finding work on other construction sites in the region,
promoting economical development beyo
