AD Editor’s view African designers; get in touch! African Design Magazine is about being young and being proudly African. This place – our continent, our home – is simply different to anywhere else in the world. We have unique conditions, unique challenges and unique requirements, and all these factors lead to the need unique design solutions, from innovative, free-thinking designers. And Africa has an abundance of them. Our goal as a publication is to showcase Africa’s innovative designers and architects to Africa and the world. And we are achieving this! Apart from the connections we have made throughout Africa, we have received positive feedback from Brazil, Chile, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom amongst others. The challenge, however, is featuring projects from throughout the African continent. Western architects working in Africa have well-oiled PR machines who provide subedited press releases, professionally taken high resolution images and walk-through videos of the buildings. And all these projects are easily sourced through a quick Google search. In Africa though, we are not there yet. Gregg Cocking Social media has, to a certain extent, opened up new avenues for us to connect with the people we want to feature; African architects and designers who have catered for a specific need with their projects. Yet we appeal to our readers for your input; if you know of an African architect who is creating great things (or are one yourself), get in touch with us, connect and share. We created African Design Magazine to give the work of our continent’s fresh thinkers a global platform for discourse. Let’s celebrate our uniqueness.
