International Architect Ugandan LGBT Creating designs for an LGBT youth asylum in Uganda requires a great deal of rather than how it is. The Ugandan LGBT Youth Asylum architecture competition grow and further integrate with society, as opposed to isolating an already vuln centre, not 1ST Prize Winner The winners of the Ugandan LGBT Youth Asylum architecture competition implemented a spiral design for their youth centre. The coherent transition of the spaces was one of the key factors that the jury picked out. They selected it as the winning design as it offered a contradicting logic that suited the competition brief. The spiral layout makes the dwelling relatively open to the public, while at the same time keeping the inner spaces private and protected. Protecting the vulnerable nature of the residents was an important aspect of this winning design, and the organic shape used in the building’s design allow it to blend in with the surrounding context, while still remaining unique and distinctive to such a degree that it could quickly become a symbol of a safe haven for those in need. The spiral design represents a community that does not give up, and a struggle that continues. The unconstrained flow turns into walls, which turn into space, which becomes a cluster of experiences and people - a place free from discrimination as one hopes one day all of society will be.
