Adengo Architects, an architecture and urbanism practice, is grounded in
research and multidisciplinary collaboration. Recent projects have focused on
affordable housing in Kampala, Uganda. The firm is led by Doreen Adengo, a
Ugandan architect based in Kampala.
A
fter completing her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Catholic
University and Yale, respectively, she worked in London, Washington
DC, and New York for Adjaye Associates, Robert A. M. Stern Architects,
Ellerbe Becket, and Gruzen Samton Architects. She has taught at
The New School and Pratt Institute in New York and the Makerere
University in Kampala. She is currently a part-time lecturer at the
Faculty for the Built Environment at Uganda Martyrs University and a
visiting critic at the University of Johannesburg’s Graduate School of
Architecture.
Like her design work, Doreen Adengo’s teaching practice relies on interdisciplinary
communication and collaboration. She has taught classes on African urbanism as part
of the Uganda International Field Program at The New School, along with design studio
and drawing at Pratt Institute.
