The school was operating from mobile accommodations on the same site, and continued to do so during the construction phase. What was the site formerly? The site was a Greenfield-type with no existing buildings or structures on site with the exception of the mobile school accommodation. The Education Department of the Western Cape purchased the site for the establishment of the new school. Were there any issues on site? Geographically speaking, Louwville forms a low point to the east of Vredenburg, which meant that careful consideration with the design & management of storm water had to be implemented. Another aspect which arose was the poor soil conditions on the site, but both the storm water and the soil issues were resolved accordingly. What is the total size of the school/capacity of pupils? 1 200 learners, with consideration given to the possible future extension to 1 480 learners. The total area of the school facilities is 5 390m 2 , which includes 38 classrooms, 5 science laboratories, 2 specialist classrooms, a media centre/library area, an administration building, a forum space, ablution blocks and three dynamic courtyard spaces. What would you say is the most noticeable feature of the building?
