protected from the elements. Deep recessed façades prevent solar gain, while skylights
reflect light deep into floor levels and into communal learning and social spaces cutting
on artificial energy costs. The use of low maintenance materials and exposed concrete
slabs and structural walls create a more sustainable building yet enhance its ability
to educate on ‘how it has been made’. All finishes externally and internally have been
considered in their longevity and aesthetic appeal to the user.
PROJECT TEAM
The completion of the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the University
of Science & Technology building is another perfect execution and dual completion by
Italtile and Kerry McNamara Architects from Windhoek. The chosen European products
were Atlas Concorde Zone White 60x60, 550m2 and Studio Black matt 60x60, 900m2
for the ground floor. For Italtile, concluding the Department of Architecture and Spatial
Planning project was a proud progression to future projects and an accomplishment to be
proud of.
