TIME SQUARE MENLYN MAINE
environment philosophy.
Situated at the end
of one of the main
axes of the overall
Menlyn Maine project,
the entertainment
destination is both
seamlessly integrated
with the ambience of
the rest of the precinct,
while simultaneously
providing an extravagant
representation of its ultimate function.
Jearey explains that during the day
Time Square blends seamlessly with
its environment but at night clearly
stands out from other buildings in the
Menlyn Maine precinct. This is achieved
through the decorative white slashes on
the façades of the buildings which are
automatically illuminated and imbued
with colour when the sun sets. All building
façades are dominated by customised
glazing which not only helps to decrease
the mechanical load but also increases
energy efficiency.
The client brief called for a strong
contemporary design, underpinning Sun
International’s focus on introducing an
exciting look and feel to lift its
gambling offering into
the 21st century.
LYT adopted
an underlying
thread of time
passing by. “We
considered
different
dimensions
of time as a
principle, each
with its own
parameters.
This theme
effortlessly flows from the outside of the
buildings, through the parking areas and
into the interiors. There is an intensely
design-rich ambience in both the casino
and hotel, with careful consideration
given to every surface, column, door,
carpet and light fitting.”
While there is an understated tone in
other areas of the casino, the colourful
explosion on the gaming floor
provides an inviting
and exciting
atmosphere
for patrons.
