Van Den Heever scoops Chess for all

The Chess for All Challenge held weekend in Cape Town aimed at promoting chess to marginalized communities of South Africa with prizes sponsored by Four Corners and the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa was a huge success.

Reuben Salimu head of African Chess Lounge and chess consultant on the making of the movie Four Corners convened the event and said "Chess, art and crafts and sport all offer real alternatives to gang violence that is a known issue in the Cape Flats in the Western Cape. Well done to Four Corners for highlighting the issues we need to face and making such a brilliant movie in the process highlighting the social impact chess can have on society.” Reuben went on thank the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa for their support of the event.

The contestants took part in the Chess For All Challenge held at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.Prizes and free entry for disadvantaged players were supplied by Four Corners and the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa. The event was won by the current South African Closed Champion FM Donovan Van Den Heever, second was IM Watu Kobese and third Place Provincial Master Daudi Amini.
