A different approach
All of these lessons will be important in weeks and
months to come. The immediate concern, once the
moment of celebration has passed, will be how these
goals and targets are implemented. How will we measure
progress and hold countries to account on their pledges
to reach everyone everywhere with water, sanitation and
hygiene promotion in the next 15 years?
This will mark the first time any international agreement
has called for an end to open defecation, and for a focus
on the sanitation and hygiene needs of women and girls,
and the most marginalized.
