The framework has helped to galvanize development efforts and guide global and national development priorities. In support of the UN designation of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), WED this year adopts SIDS in the broader context of climate change as its theme. WED aims to build momentum towards the Third International Conference on SIDS in September and to encourage a greater understanding of the importance of SIDS and of the urgency to help protect the islands in the face of growing risks and vulnerabilities, particularly as a result of climate change. WED 2014 is an excellent opportunity to raise a call for solidarity with the islands and to highlight their unique developmental challenges and successes. WED 2014 is being hosted by Barbados, a Small Island Developing State located in the Caribbean that is leading its country’s transition to more sustainable policies and practices. 32 • Breaking Tradition: From Mortgage Lending to Water Financing • Customer Count - Ebonyi Prepares for a New Flow of Water Services • Hawassa Residents Celebrate Greater Access to Safe and Affordable Water • Kenya Water Sector Innovator Leads the Way with Commercial Financing • Regulatory Authority Endorsed by Ugandan Water Sector Officials Partners Disclaimer While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the contents of this publication, the Publisher will accept no responsibility for any errors or omissions or for any loss or damage, unconsequential or otherwise suffered as a result of any material here published. The opinions expressed in the editorial are the sole responsibility of the authors or organizations concerned and not those of the Publisher.
