INDUSTRY NEWS Arctec Exhibits TrojanThree Overprinting System The TrojanThree overprinting system can be mounted in any host system that runs at speeds of up to 18 metres per minute. It enables high quality four-colour printing on all materials with an absorbent surface, such as most kinds of uncoated papers and cardboards or materials that are pre- treated for aqueous inkjet printing. The system was exhibited at the Africa Print Expo, which took place at Gallagher Convention Centre from 13-15 September. The fl exibility of the overprinting system means that it can be used to print on fl at objects such as unfolded boxes or labels, thick objects like blister envelopes and wooden planks or even folded boxes ready for shipment. The company also exhibited the TrojanTwo, an affordable mini digital label press that has the characteristics of larger and more expensive systems. The press will run at 18m/min and up to 1600 x 1600dpi. With sophisticated algorithms and a self-maintaining system, it will be able to run larger volumes and maintain high print quality. Uchida models were also featured on the stand, including: • Uchida AeroCut One: a professional slitter/ cutter/creaser that is an ideal solution for fi nishing medium to long run digitally printed applications, such as business cards, postcards, invitations, greeting cards, pamphlets/leafl ets, tickets and more. • Uchida collator UC-1200: effi ciently collates a wide variety of papers. The centre feed system eliminates the need to re-position the sheets ev ery time the paper size is changed. It is suitable for applications such as NCR books, booklets and more. • Uchida EZF-600: features paper feed pressure and separator pressure adjustment; automatic feed table elevation and delivery roll setting. An optional device allows the machine to perforate, score and split papers. • Uchida EZF-200: accommodates roller and belt delivery and quick release rollers. Thick paper mode gives bigger folding impact to papers and the error map and error codes make it easier to clear jammed paper. www.arctec.co.za Master Print Installs Xerox Versant 80 and opportunities.’ The Versant 80 is replacing the company's Xerox 700. The decision to upgrade to the newer technology was based on the need to increase print capacity for colour printing, as well as for the improved colour print capabilities that the Versant 80 offered. Bailey added, ‘The Versant 80 represents a big improvement from what we had. It can handle a wider range of substrates and heavier weights and can print onto a longer sheet. Also the quality is a lot sharper. With the increasing demands for shorter runs and maintaining our high standards in print and customer service, the Xerox Versant was, without question, the route to go.’ Owners Paul Pursey and Shaun Bailey with their new Xerox Versant 80 HD Digital Press. West Rand based Master Print recently installed a Xerox Versant 80 digital colour production press, ordered from Xerox Business Partner XBC-IT. According to Shaun Bailey, a partner in the business, the decision in favour of the Xerox Versant 80 was made very easily. ‘Our longstanding relationship with Xerox meant that we did not even consider another vendor. The choice of a concessionaire was an important element though and working with XBC-IT has proven to be a very positive and benefi cial experience.’ Master Print was founded in 1986 by Paul Pursey and Shaun’s father Brian Bailey with fi nancial assistance from the Small Business Development www.AfricaPrint.com Corporation. Starting out as a small general printer, growth came from instilling the core values of quality, commitment to the customer, integrity and honesty. This growth saw the number of presses and units increase over the years. Having started out with a small single-colour press, it was not too long before the company installed its fi rst four- colour press. In 2007, Master Print made its fi rst foray into the world of digital printing. Bailey commented, ‘When digital reared its head we were almost driven to adopt this technology for fear of being left behind. It has proven to be a major benefi t to the company, giving us the ability to handle a wider range of work and opening us up to new clients The Versant fi tted very quickly into the production process at Master Print. Not only is it easy to operate but it is also connected to the existing inline fi nishing system that was used with the 700. The modular connection meant that the learning curve was limited to the new print engine. The quality of printing achieved on the Versant provides an additional benefi t to Master Print. It allows short run work to be handled digitally, thereby freeing litho production for the longer run work. It also allows for accurate proofs and pre- runs to be handled with the ability to accurately match the colour from digital to litho. www.bytesdocumentsolutions.co.za AFRICA PRINT JOURNAL JANUARY 2018 PG 13
