THE SERIOUS DANGERS OF DRIVER DISTRACTION
Speaker: Dr Lucia Kelleher
Currently almost one in two people will have ‘blanks’ whilst on the road with commutes or
other habitual drives, compared to 10 years ago where that figure was closer to one in fifty. The
digital age has resulted in the brain being constantly bombarded with stimulus and this sensory
overload has caused the brain to mal-adapt, which means that people are in a state of brain
overload most of the time. This presentation will explore the concept of Busy Brain Sydrome
(BBS) and provide practical solutions to curb this modern age safety risk.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO CLAIM
THE FBT EXEMPTION?
Speaker: Andy Larmour HOW CAN THE FLEET INDUSTRY HELP
IMPROVE THE ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY?
Speaker: Jerome Carslake
Vehicles that are potentially exempt from
FBT and are currently an area of ATO’s
focus, as each instance of exemption being
taken will typically result in a reduction in
tax of $8,000+ per vehicle. The ATO has
recently published some practical guidance
on how to identify whether the exemption
is available and there a number of steps
an employer can take to ensure its policies
and procedures would satisfy an ATO
audit. Come and hear from KPMG and they
will help guide on how to identify whether
the exemption is available. In this engaging presentation Jerome will
explore the key findings of what is currently
happening at both fleet and government
level to improve road safety and drive
workplace safety, while also proposing some
new recommendations for the industry
moving forward. He will also provide a
general overview around the development
of the NRSPP and explore how promoting a
positive road safety culture in the workplace
can make a huge difference to the
operations of your organisation.

THE DANGERS OF LOW-LEVEL SPEEDING
Speaker: Stuart McGregor
Being “a good driver” will not stop you or
one of your workers dying or killing another
road user in a fleet vehicle collision. We
have all heard the catch-cry “speed kills”
but what is the evidence and what does it
mean to the average driver who just goes
a little over the speed limit. Victoria Police’s
Stuart McGregor will share his knowledge
in this field and his experience from leading
Road Crime Investigations.

brings the state in line with other jurisdictions
and up-to-date with modern technology. In this
session, Melissa Harvey will talk through a broad
