FLEETDRIVE
Is there anything else you’d like to get off
your chest about fleet safety generally?
How can we fix this national problem?
Cassie: There is limited understanding of duties
of all the supply chain when it comes to HSE
compliance and obligations. A guide to safety
management at all levels would be great.
Daphne: This indirectly impacts safety, but the
government needs to consider incentives for
consumers to choose green vehicles. This can
be done via tax reduction initiatives, registration
discounts etc but also need to start focusing on
infrastructure for consumers (fleets) to seriously
consider electric and PHEV’s.
John: Navigating future fleet use and costs of
running either ICE and electric, electric only and
eventually hydrogen. It is difficult to know what
to commit to from a fit for purpose and cost
perspective. It may be prudent to concentrate
fleet use on electric only for city use and ICE/
hybrid in more remote areas to avoid range
anxiety. AfMA developed tools may assist a wide
range of sectors in fleet mix selection.
Les: There is general apathy relating to an
organisation’s responsibilities under the OH&S
act directly attributable to fleet.
Peter: While fleet managers are painfully aware
of the ramifications, often senior management
espouse one thing but their actions betray their
underlying attitudes. The contempt with which
vehicle safety is held is unbelievable, and it
stems right back to “day one week one” training
on the responsibility involved in owning and
driving a vehicle right from that very first day
they get in a vehicle to drive.
Quenten: I think if the reversing technology is
available then why aren’t manufacturer’s at least
having this system offered as an optional extra
to improve safety?
