AfMA Fleetdrive Issue 10 | Page 2

Executive Summary Mace Hartley Executive Director Hello and welcome officially to 2018 from the AfMA team. We trust that you have had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday period surrounded by your family and other loved ones. The past couple of months have been quite significant for AfMA, as we continue to educate and inform our members on the importance of fleet management and act as advocates for the industry in general. Recently I had the privilege of attending a celebration dinner with the Melbourne cohort of our Graduate Diploma of Leadership and Management. AfMA is proud to be collaborating with Swinburne on this course to broaden the skills of those operating in the fleet and automotive industries. We look forward to hearing more success stories from our graduates in coming weeks on how they are utilising their new skills within the workplace. AfMA continues to encourage sponsors, corporates and individuals to get excited for our Annual Fleet Conference & Exhibition in Melbourne on May 17-18. This is a premier opportunity to connect with like-minded fleet professionals and to build and develop new links and partnerships towards your organisation. We are proud and thankful for all the speakers, exhibitors and sponsors that have already committed to celebrating this event alongside us. Tickets and more information for this major conference are available at afma.net.au/conference2018. We encourage everyone within the industry to 2 ISSUE 10 2018 / WWW.AFMA.NET.AU come along and learn from one another at this industry-recognised gathering. We would also highly recommend the upcoming Professional Development Forums that are occurring right around Australia over the coming fortnight. These gatherings are an excellent opportunity to gather on a smaller scale with people from your state to tackle local and broader fleet issues. Details of locations, venues and times are provided within this issue of FleetDrive. Make sure to book your tickets asap, so that you don’t miss out! A couple of our features this month take the opportunity to shine the light on a series of significant issues and achievements within the fleet industry. We were delighted to meet with Steve Ellis who is celebrating a deserved 40th anniversary with Telstra this year. Steve has provided some great advice for new and established fleet professionals on how to better understand the demands of your ever-changing role, so make sure to take this advice on board. Likewise, our special report with Toll Managing Director Michael Byrne is a compelling look at road safety within the transport and heavy vehicle sector. After a horror holiday period on our roads, these recommendations are a timely reminder for our governments to take immediate action in order to save lives. Plus don’t forget to check out our regular Around The World feature for all the latest fleet movements from here and across the globe.
